#LOMPOCCHALKS chalk festival!
The Lompoc Theatre Project invites you to be a sponsor for Lompoc’s newest festival event, Lompoc Chalks.
what is "artober"?
There are three artistic events planned in October; the Lompoc Mural Society for Mural in a Weekend, October 6 and 7, the Lompoc Art Assocation with the Art Hunt is October 18-20, and our event will be October 12-14. We will be promoting these three events as “Artober”.
what IS Lompoc Chalks?
The Lompoc Chalks Festival is an event focused on the Visual and Performing Arts Community in Lompoc happening Friday, October 12, through Sunday, October 14, 2018. Local resident, Don Fletcher, came up with the idea and presented it to the Lompoc Theatre Project. The LTP sees this as a great opportunity to highlight the talents and artistic charms Lompoc has to offer while fundraising for their efforts to turn the Lompoc Theatre into a performing, visual, and educational arts center for the Lompoc Valley.
Since November 2017, Lompoc Chalks has been meeting regularly with the Lompoc Theatre Project Board of Directors and over 24 volunteers and has been endorsed by local artists organizations, such as the Lompoc Art Association and the Lompoc Mural Society. We will be reaching out to Arts groups throughout the state and country via a network of established Arts organizations such as I Madonnari (www.imadonnarifestival.com/events) to join us in our efforts.
Where will the event be?
The event will be held in downtown Lompoc, at the two public parking lots located at Cypress Avenue and I Streets, near "Art Alley", our murals, the Theatre, and our Old Town area. There will be artisan vendors, food trucks, an entertainment stage and a beer and wine garden.
What's the plan?
Thursday, Oct 11: Paint over the parking lines in the lot with washable chalk temper paint and start setting up.
Friday, Oct 12: Artists will begin their work. Artist Reception Dinner Dance somewhere in Lompoc off-site. No Vendors or Food Trucks this day.
Saturday & Sunday, Oct 13-14: Chalk event begins at 10:00 am. There will be food trucks, art vendors, music, entertainment and a wine and beer tent. Open to the public with a suggested donation upon entry but not compulsory. Final work will be filmed at 3:00 pm on Sunday, with clean up to follow. The entertainment will stop at 5:00 pm both days.
While many participants will be local, these is also a community of chalk artists who travel across the state and country to participate in chalk festivals bringing their families and art teams. A featured event artist is hired by the organizer and paid to attend. All the other artists donate their time for the love of their art. Hotel rooms are provided by the organizers for some of the out of town artists.
Vendors will consist of handmade artisan items.
Local entertainers, performers, and bands will perform throughout the Saturday & Sunday of the Chalk festival
Though it is difficult to project the number of out of town guests the event will draw this inaugural year, we predict substantial growth in future years as an annual event in the perfect town of Lompoc, the City of Arts and Flowers.
We are excited to reach out to young and older artist alike with the opportunity of local children being able to purchase a small square for only $12 and the children of active military families will be free. We are hoping for a large turnout of families and visitors who can enjoy our good weather and experience a unique and beautiful art form as they walk around the downtown during the festival, looking at the murals and touring the theatre to check on our progress.
GENERAL ADMISSION COST:
Entrance to the event will be free will donation (not compulsory).
