NEWS & Press

The ongoing efforts by the Lompoc Theatre Project to restore and reopen the historic theater have garnered the attention of local news reporters, and below are many of the published reports. We are thankful to our local and regional news for sharing our story and detailing our efforts.

Big Progress at the Lompoc Theatre, Inside and Out

November 7, 2026

While progress isn't always visible from the street, the Lompoc Theatre has been changing every week! Much of that change happens behind walls and below ground, out of view from H Street, but today we are delighted to share what we have been able to accomplish in just a few short months.

Phase II Highlights:

  • A new roof, completed before the rains. All of the retrofitting is in place, and the $850,000 project came in under budget! We are putting every dollar saved toward other active renovation work to improve the property.

  • Asbestos fully removed. The historic building is now clear of all remaining asbestos!

  • Seismic retrofits underway. Crews have started excavating around the theater to strengthen its foundation.

  • Preparing for a new stage. The old stage has been removed, and work on the basement, walls, and other retrofits are getting the space ready for its replacement!

  • Preserving our history. Part of the original stage, fixtures and other architectural pieces have been carefully collected and preserved. Some will be built into the renovation, and others will appear in a historical display when the theater reopens at full capacity.

We’re also getting closer to moving the Land Office Building, which will put it back on H Street for the first time in more than a century! We look forward to sharing the details of this historic move soon.

Much of the remaining Phase II work depends on the weather. Some indoor projects may not be visible this winter, but we’ll keep you updated on our progress over the coming months.
